Until now, risk is not a very prominent topic in the German foundation sector. This is surprising since foundations, due to their unique position in society, have extraordinary risk taking abilities. The latest issue of "Notes from the Field" deals with four different foundation risks: reputational, legal, operational and opportunity risk. The presented results are based on a research conducted by Timothy Hobden who encourages foundations to be more open to risky bets and strategic risk management in order to find innovative solutions for complex social problems.
